Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary team and develop new skills in the world of Radiology. The successful candidate will involve working on a  rota, with extended days and weekends.

You will support the work of the Radiology Department to assist Radiologists and Radiographers in performing a range of Radiological procedures, including  Ultrasound and CT.

We have a new state of the art Emergency Department which opened in April 2019 with dedicated DR X Ray rooms, Ultrasound and a CT scanner. The successful applicant will be expected to rotate into this area from the main X-Ray department, US and CT. 

This is a rotational post between the newly opening Slough Community Diagnostic Centre at Upton, Wexham Park Hospital (Slough), Heatherwood Elective Centre (Ascot), St Mark's  Hospital (Maidenhead) and King Edward's VII Hospital (Windsor).

This position is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants must already hold the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the contract.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in all aspects of patient care with in the Radiology department.
  • To assist with housekeeping duties i.e. cleaning specialist equipment.
  • To make up slides of biopsy samples for microscopic examination by Histology / Pathology.
  • To work cross-site between Wexham Park hospital in Slough, Heatherwood Hospital Ascot , King Edwards VII in Windsor and St Marks in Maidenhead as and when required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please see the attached Job Description and Job Specification for full details, some of the key tasks will include:

  • To maintain privacy and dignity of all patients in the department.
  • To ensure patient care needs are recognised and addressed while in Radiology department e.g.: reassurance, toilet requirements
  • To assists patients with undressing and preparation for Radiological examinations.
  • To act as a chaperone for patients as required.
  • To clean radiological equipment as per departmental procedures.
  • To assist patients and staff with the specific tests and examinations carried out in the Radiology department.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English and Maths pass or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant healthcare qualifications e.g. nursing, NVQ.

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in a similar post or dealing with the public.
  • Experience of working in the NHS.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety issues.
  • Friendly, caring and approachable manner to patients and staff.
  • IT literate and ability to navigate several interlinked digital and IT systems.
  • Must communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of X-rays e.g. A level Physics, Biology or equivalent.
