Main duties of the job

Provide nutritional assessment and dietetic management for paediatric patients across inpatient and outpatient settings

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To devise an individualised dietetic management and/or treatment plan using clinical reasoning and make decisions regarding and formulate skills to utilise a range of treatment options in formulating a programme of care, carry out nutritional diagnosis and prescribe ACBS products for conditions where there are limited professional clinical guidelines
- To act as a dietetic resource for the speciality and associated clinical groups
- To provide complex outpatient clinics as required. The role requires a minimum of one outpatient clinic per week. The types of patients within this patient group include;
- To contribute to the service development, efficiency and safety in the dietetic department. The department is currently working on a quality improvement project within outpatients and you will have the opportunity to contribute towards this work.
- To be responsible for implementing the standards and policies within your speciality and/or department, and where applicable, propose changes to working practises.
- To support in the training of students on clinical placement including A, B and C placement students.
- To support the clinical supervision of junior colleagues, particularly within the specialty
- To contribute to the education of multidisciplinary groups, patients, families, carers and general public as appropriate

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised degree or post graduate diploma in nutrition and dietetics or equivalent
- HCPC registration
- Basic knowledge of health legislation in current practice and clinical governance.
- Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
- Attendance of relevant accredited course
- Attendance at student supervision training
- Member of a specialist interest group
- Relevant nutrition based course post qualification
- Member of BDA
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post registration clinical dietetic experience
- Training and supervision to support staff and students
- Experience of Audit or Quality Improvement project
- Evidence of working as part of an MDT
- Experienced in all aspects of nutrition support – oral, nutrition support and enteral nutrition.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of research
- Management of complex outpatients patients
- Leadership and first line management.
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good organisational skills.
- Effective MDT working
- Prioritisation of workload
- Evidence of excellent written skills.
- Communication skills
