Job overview

This role focuses on supporting patient admissions, with a key responsibility for transferring GP medication lists into our Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems within the Acute Medicines area.
The post also supports stock management and ward services within the Emergency Department (ED).

 

We are seeking a committed and motivated individual with excellent organisational skills to help develop and shape this role.
Responsibilities will include supervising and training dispensary assistants, as well as acting as a role model for pharmacy assistants.

 

The successful candidate must have strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively to tight deadlines in this busy and challenging environment. Good computer literacy and a high level of attention to detail are essential.

The decision to appoint will be based on both interview performance and the quality and content of the application.

Main duties of the job

The post holder supports the Lead Pharmacist - emergency Department and Lead Pharmacy Technician - clinical services.

This will include:

  • To transcribe Drug histories from electronic sources such as Connected Care on to EPIC EPR.
  • To assess and check PODs.
  • To support pharmacy with the provision of Monitored Dosage System (MDS) to discharged patients.
  • To aid the clinical teams with Discharge Medicine Service (DMS) referrals to support community pharmacies.
  • Assist in the transfer of medicines between wards and locating medicines that have been left behind when patients are transferred between wards, including patient’s own drugs.

This position is not suitable for graduates' seeking progression into a Biomedical Scientist role. It is intended for candidates interested in an MLA career rather than using the role as a stepping stone to BMS training.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent, to include English and Mathematics.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Methodical/logical approach to work.
  • High level of accuracy.
  • To accurately perform calculations.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
  • Basic knowledge of pharmaceuticals.
  • Knowledge in over-the-counter sales.
  • Recent examples of providing good Customer Care.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working on a reception in a busy environment.
  • Experience of stock control
  • Experience of order, receipt, and storage of goods.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of communicating with a wide range of people.
  • Experience of working as a Dispensary Assistant.
  • Experience of using Hyperspace & Willow pharmacy computer system.
  • Previous dispensing experience.

Special Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work flexible hours including late evenings, bank holidays and weekends on a rotational basis.
Desirable criteria
  • Would be willing to travel cross-site if needed.
