1 Full-Time Post & 1 Part-Time Post (30 hours per week)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialists with an interest in respiratory care to join our expanding respiratory service within Frimley Health, based at King Edward VII Hospital, covering East Berkshire.

You will deliver specialist, patient-centred respiratory care as part of a multidisciplinary team including Respiratory Consultants, Physiotherapists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, HCAs and Therapy Support Workers. This demanding yet rewarding role offers varied experience to develop your clinical skills and professional portfolio.

The post holder will assess and manage patients with respiratory conditions including COPD, Bronchiectasis, Interstitial Lung Disease, Asthma and those requiring oxygen therapy. You will support holistic assessment, care planning and delivery of individualised treatment across hospital and community settings.

You will work with GPs, Urgent Care Teams, Community Nurses and Palliative Care Services to ensure integrated care pathways.

The service operates predominantly Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, with future plans for a 7-day service. A comprehensive induction and strong support for ongoing learning and development are provided. You will be joining organisations rated ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will provide specialist respiratory intervention, as well as supporting the multidisciplinary team in assessment and development of a holistic management plan.

You will be expected to perform assessment of respiratory patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.

 You will understand the assessment and management of multiple respiratory conditions and be aware of local and national guidelines for COPD, Bronchiectasis, Interstitial Lung Disease, Asthma and Oxygen.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse – Part 1,2,12 Or HCPC registered
  • First degree in nursing/HCPC, or demonstrable experience at this level
  • Teaching/assessment programme
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma/degree in respiratory care (COPD/Asthma) or willing to complete

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant relevant clinical experience in the same or related specialty OR Recent clinical experience in the acute setting
  • First degree in nursing/HCPC, or demonstrable experience at this level
  • Diploma/ degree in respiratory care (COPD / Asthma) or willing to complete
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma/ degree in respiratory care (COPD / Asthma) or willing to complete

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates up to date knowledge and expertise in general nursing/physiotherapy
  • Knowledge of key professional issues and NMC/HCPC guidelines and codes, relating to professional practice
  • Awareness of community working and structures
  • Knowledge of the COPD and asthma outcomes strategy, NICE & BTS guidelines
  • Clinical knowledge & skills in respiratory care
