Swansea Bay Health Charity

Swansea Bay University Health Board is seeking an accomplished Charity Director to lead Swansea Bay Health Charity and maximise the impact of charitable giving for patients, staff and communities.

This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced charity or fundraising leader to apply their skills within the NHS, working at strategic level with Trustees and senior leaders to grow income, influence and charitable impact across Swansea Bay.

Reporting to the Director of Insight, Communications and Engagement, you will have overall responsibility for the leadership, direction and administration of the Charity, ensuring strong governance, effective fundraising and the responsible use of charitable funds

 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

Leading the development and delivery of the Charity’s strategy and business plans

Advising and supporting the Board of Trustees and Charitable Funds Committee to meet their governance and statutory duties

Growing income through strategic fundraising, partnerships and major donor relationships

Acting as custodian of the Charity’s brand and raising its profile

Ensuring robust financial management, compliance and value for money

Leading, developing and motivating the Charity team

About you:

You will be a senior charity professional with strong experience in fundraising, charity operations or strategic income generation, and a sound understanding of governance and financial stewardship. You will be confident working with Trustees and senior stakeholders, an effective communicator, and motivated by delivering meaningful social impact.

Experience of the NHS or health charities is welcome but not essential; we are keen to hear from candidates who can bring fresh thinking and best practice from the wider charity sector into an NHS context.

Essential criteria
  • Adhere to and can demonstrate SBU Values and Behaviours

  • Experience of working with autonomy in a least one charity NHS or otherwise
  • Experience of working directly with Trustees / a Trustee Board

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound understanding of charity governance and fundraising and of a broad range of modern fundraising and marketing disciplines of NHS and what a Health Charity can deliver for patients, local populations and staff.
  • Demonstrable track record of leadership at middle or senior management level.
  • Evidence of undertaking presentations and public speaking to groups, demonstrating excellent presentation and communication skills to different audiences
  • Significant experience in fundraising, marketing or sales, securing a number of five or six figure gifts or contracts.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing small teams of staff, in developing, managing and reporting on budgets and related financial data.
  • Experience of stakeholder management systems and processes, and creating and delivering charitable events
  • Proven experience of working with a variety of senior stakeholders to successfully achieve organisational goals.
  • Experience of working, with autonomy, in at least one charity NHS or otherwise of working directly with Trustees / a Trustee Board.
  • Experience of working with MS Office and administrative skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the Institute of Fundraising or Third Sector
  • Events management qualification
  • Degree in a marketing related discipline
  • Experience of working with CRM databases
  • Experience in NHS and / or voluntary sector
