Job overview

Swansea Bay UHB Infection Prevention & Control Service is looking for a motivated, forward thinking and highly experienced NMC registered nurse who is committed to ensuring the delivery of safe and effective care to service users, and has experience working within Infection control, to become part of the Infection Prevention and Control Team.

The post holder will work alongside the Matron for Infection prevention and Control and the wider team, to ensure the delivery of the health boards Infection Prevention and Control Improvement plan.

They will be expected to work as an autonomous practitioner as well as within part of a large team.

This will be a permanent position with full time hours (37.5 hours). The post will initially be based at Morriston Hospital, but the successful candidate will also participate in a rotation across each of the Service Groups including the acute and community settings of Swansea Bay University Health Board and will be required to travel across all sites independently, in a timely manner.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the health board IPCT to provide an integrated service in all health delivery settings including Primary, Secondary and Tertiary care, Mental Health & Learning Disability.

They will be identified as a clinical expert in infection prevention & control (IPC), including decontamination, water safety & other relevant engineering aspects of IPC.

The post holder will be expected to act as a practice leader, managing their own workload and work across professional, organisational, agency and system boundaries to improve services and develop practice.  They will supervise and support junior members of the IPCT to undertake their roles to ensure service delivery across the health board.

The post holder will be expected to work at an advanced clinical level within their level of competence and to work flexibly as part of the team.   They will represent the health board in forums and networks, locally, regionally and nationally. The post holder will assess and manage risk and proactively challenge others about risk.

The role involves the requirement to travel between health board premises and possibly within the community setting to provide advice, support, education and undertake audit in relation to IP&C. It could involve transporting training equipment, such as the hand hygiene Glow box and PPE training supplies, between health board sites. Therefore, the ability to travel independently between sites in a timely manner is essential.
