Applications are invited for a part time Consultant post in Community Paediatric service (6 sessions.) This is a permanent replacement post commencing as soon as possible and is based in the Childrens Centre, Neath Port Talbot Hospital, Neath Port Talbot. We are looking for an ambitious Paediatric Consultant to join one of the largest providers of integrated health care in the UK. As a Health Board in Wales we are committed to the communities we serve and determined to uphold the fundamental values of the NHS. We are looking for applicants with a special interest in Autism Spectrum Disorders and Neurodisability. The successful candidate will work within an enthusiastic and established multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The Community Child Health Services cover the Unitary Authority areas of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. The child population covered in Neath Port Talbot is 28,090 (2021 census) and in Swansea is 46,840. There is a Child Development Centre at Singleton (Hafan y Mor) and Neath Port Talbot hospitals. These are the bases for the Community Paediatricians, as well as the Paediatric therapists. They form vital hubs for wider multiagency working with colleagues from education, social services, and third sector organisations.
You will be a member of a team of health-based personnel delivering Community Child Health services to children and their families, in conjunction with the Consultant Community Paediatrician and Specialty doctor colleagues. You will liaise and maintain close links with other health care personnel i.e. health visitors, general practitioners, clinic and school nurses, hospital paediatricians, audiologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, child and adolescent mental health professionals and the neurodevelopmental team.
You will liaise with representatives of the Education Authority, Social Services Department and voluntary organisations. Travelling between Hospital/Clinic sites may be required to undertake duties. In exceptional circumstances it may also be necessary to undertake duties at other locations with the Health Board

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.

- Licensed to practice

- MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
- Higher Degree, e.g MSc, MD, PhD in Paediatrics Note: The international Recruitment & AAC team can advise on these qualifications Note: In some countries the MD is the primary medical qualification, not a postgraduate qualification

- Ability to fulfil all of the duties of the post, including on-call commitments and travel requirements

Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- • Is able to demonstrate having achieved the competencies equivalent to the Highest Specialist Paediatric Training. Note: For subspecialty posts or posts with more than forty percent subspecialty work, applicant must fulfil the required criteria from that subspecialty. The relevant CSAC can advise here. As the attached representative you will be a member of the relevant subspecialty. • Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training • Valid BLS Training
- At least 2 years General Professional Training in paediatrics
- 5 years Higher Specialist Training, including 3 years in Community Paediatrics
- Achieved competencies in level 3 child protection training
- Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff (”Working Together”)
- Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service (“Always Improving”)
- Values partnership with other agencies (”Working Together”)
Desirable criteria
- • Experience working in NHS Wider experience, research, and training, in providing subspecialty service (if applicable)
- Experience in other areas relevant to child health e.g. general practice, child mental health, obstetrics, public health
- Specialist experience in one or more particular areas of practice to take a lead role in that area
- Valid APLS or NLS
