Job overview

The MSK and Spinal Service at Morriston Hospital, Swansea Bay University Health Board are seeking one part time 22.5hours per week Band 8A Qualified SCP’s to join our expanding MSK team.

Opportunities have arisen due to staff retirement.. You will be skilled in Orthopaedic Surgical Care Practitoner as well as first and second assisting, whilst also participating in aspects of pre, peri and post-operative care of the patient under the direction of the Consultant Surgeons.

Main duties of the job

The MSK Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) Team work within T&O and Spinal surgery. Flexibility of working hours and some cross site travel will be expected. The successful candidates will be exceptional, dedicated individuals with the drive and ambition to provide and maintain the highest standards of patient care.

Joining the existing team that is led by a committed group of consultants with the Surgical Directorate. The MSK and Spinal teams are committed to developing, training and expanding the role of the SCP within its service, delivering excellent patient care and up to date practice, in an environment, which encourages personal and professional development. As an 8A SCP you shall be providing leadership and mentorship to trainee SCP’s and others within the service. 


This is a Post is a Band 8a AFC level therefore successful applicants must have the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of the multi-disciplinary team, influencing the development of the service. Alongside expert knowledge, clinical and assessment skills (including theatre skills) the post holder will demonstrate an ability to communicate and influence at an advanced level.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Professional registration (NMC,HCPC) NMC HCPC
  • Level 7 Education (Master’s Degree) relevant to area of practice.
  • In receipt or working toward Independent Authorisation of Blood Products (desirable if relevant to role)
  • Evidence of maintaining an Advanced Clinical Practice portfolio
  • Advanced specialist knowledge of patient pathways.
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge and practical experience to carry out clinical consultation and/or examination relevant to area of practice
  • Independent Prescribing qualification (if required for role).
Desirable criteria
  • Management/Leadership qualification or possess equivalent skills and experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post registration clinical experience in advanced practice within speciality area.
  • Evidence of performing at Advanced Level of Practice.
  • Proven track record of working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
