Advanced Pharmacist: Specialist Antimicrobial Pharmacist
Band 8a
Job overview
Antibiotic resistance is one of top 10 global public health threats facing humanity. Termed as the silent pandemic, the significant impact it will have across all health care settings will undoubtedly affect everything we do.
Do you think you could make a difference and help optimise our antibiotic prescribing in SBUHB; helping to protect our patients both now and in the future?
This is a varied and challenging role and involves working with a wide range of health care professionals across both primary and secondary care. You will join a friendly and forward thinking team of antimicrobial pharmacists, antimicrobial technician, microbiology /infectious diseases doctors and a project support officer to help drive forward the antimicrobial stewardship work-plan.
Main duties of the job
Following an induction period your time will be split between working in the acute hospitals and within primary care.
A large proportion of the role within the acute hospitals involves direct clinical input into patient care through both general ward cover and regular attendance on MDT infection and stewardship ward rounds with Consultant Microbiologists. These include:
-
ITU and Cardiac ITU ward rounds
-
Trauma and orthopaedics MDT
-
Burns MDT
-
OPAT MDT
-
Consultant Microbiologist led antimicrobial stewardship ward rounds
Within primary care, amongst a variety of roles, you will be working with GP practices to assess prescribing and using quality improvement methodology to support changes in prescribing practices as needed.
Other roles and opportunities include guideline writing, delivering education and training and leading on quality improvement projects within specific areas.
You will also join a strong network of Welsh antimicrobial pharmacists with lots of opportunities for both national and even international working. Ideal for enhancing your portfolio / CV and shaping your future career.
