An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the consultant team at the Welsh Centre of Burns and Plastic Surgery, based at Swansea Bay University Health Board.

We are looking to recruit a keen and enthusiastic new colleague to join a friendly, forward thinking team in head and neck surgery. 

This is a full time substantive Consultant post based at Morriston Hospital but working across the Swansea Bay University Health board sites. The successful candidate will join a team of 27 substantive plastic and reconstructive surgeons responsible for the provision of Burns and Plastic Surgical services for the population of South Wales.

Main duties of the job

This is a permanent full time Consultant post for a fellowship trained head and neck surgeon to join a team of 28 Consultants based in the Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery (WCBPS) at Morriston Hospital, Swansea.  The post holder with play a lead role in the continued development of the head and neck resection and reconstruction service in plastic surgery working closely with the wider head and neck multidisciplinary team. The post holder will also be expected to participate in the plastic surgery acute trauma on call rota. This post will be mainly based at Morriston Hospital in Swansea although there is an expectation that all consultants will undertake peripheral clinics as required.

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people.    We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.   

 

The Health Board is part of A Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda UHB and Swansea University. Aimed at improving the wellbeing and wealth of Southwest Wales.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with GMC
  • On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Burns and Plastic Surgery or eligible for CCT or CESR (CP) – proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of date of interview or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register
  • Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery
  • Licensed to practice
  • Higher Degree/PhD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Have extensive experience in multidisciplinary skin cancer management
  • Experience of working in a regional burns and plastic surgery centre including MTC experience
  • Experience and understanding of strategic management and leadership.
  • Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff (”Working Together”)
  • Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service (“Always Improving”)
  • Values partnership with other agencies (”Working Together”)
  • Evidence of teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff
  • Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing audit
