Job overview

This is a replacement fulltime locum (with a view to substantive) consultant post specialising in Burns and Breast microsurgical breast reconstruction, joining an existing breat team of 4 Consultants and 1 Associate specialist based at Morriston Hopsital and Singleton Hospital. The successful candidate will join a team of 28 Consultants based in the Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery (WCBPS) at Morriston Hospital, Swansea responsible for the provision of burns and Plastic surgical services for the population of South Wales. The post holder will be joining the burns on call rota and therefore experience of managing centre level burns is required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join the breast microsurgery team, and will join a team of 3 breast reconstruction surgeons, providing care to patients within the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic surgery (WCBPS) at Morriston Hospital. It is anticipated that the post holder will join the burns on call rota. It is possible that the post holder will also join parts of the general Plastic surgery on call rota and there will also be general plastic surgery work within the job plan.

The post holder will join a cohesive team of 29 consultants working within the department.  The post holder will work closely with the extended MDT to deliver high quality holistic patient care.

Whilst undertaking sessions off the Morriston site, there is provision for clinical cover of inpatients under the post holder’s care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with the GMC
  • Licensed to practice
  • On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in Burns and Plastic surgery or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register
Desirable criteria
  • Further relevant degree/diploma
  • Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education

Experience
