Job overview
Swansea University Health Board is seeking to appoint to a 10 session Clinical Oncologist post specialising in CNS, sarcoma and AOS, who has a commitment to high quality patient care, high level research, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets and excellence in education/training. The post-holder will be responsible for the delivery of SACT and radiotherapy for the CNS subspecialty and radiotherapy for sarcoma as well as expanding a trials portfolio in these cancers for the patients of the South West Wales Cancer Centre.
The postholder will be joining a friendly and forward-thinking consultant team of clinical and medical oncologists who are committed to delivering highest standards of cancer care, alongside a large team of other clinical and non-clinical professionals
Main duties of the job
CNS
The postholder will provide a comprehensive non –surgical oncology service (SACT and RT) for patients with CNS tumours. The postholder with work closely with the surgical team based at the University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff. The postholder will join a team of 1 clinical oncologist.
The postholder would see approximately 60 new patients a year.
Sarcoma
The postholder will join a clinical oncologist working across South West Wales. The postholder will deliver SACT for Sarcoma for the South West Wales population. The team is supported by a
CNS.
The South Wales sarcoma MDT is hosted by Swansea Bay University Health Board and meets every Wednesday morning. Its membership includes plastic surgery, oncology, general surgery, radiology and pathology.
The postholder will see approximately 20-30 new patients/year
Acute Oncology
The Acute Oncology Service in Swansea was launched in 2015. The team has developed to consist of three full time AOS nurses, a GP with extended interest in oncology, and 4 consultants with sessions to support the nursing team and to conduct medical reviews. The service covers both Singleton and Morriston Hospital.

Essential criteria
- Registered with the GMC
- Licensed to practice
- On Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in clinical oncology with an interest in CNS, sarcoma and AOS or eligible for CCT within 6 months of date of interview and have passed exit exam or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB or a primary medical qualification and recognized specialist qualification from a European Member State which will allow direct entry to the GMC Specialist Register
Desirable criteria
- Further relevant degree/diploma
- Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education
Experience
