Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic person with experience of working in nutrition and health to join our Nutrition and Dietetic team.
You will be based with the Nutrition and Dietetic Team in Singleton Hospital supporting the hospital Nutrition and Dietetic team. You may need to work in other settings across the Health Board as required. This is a permanent post, working 37.5 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
As a Dietetic Assistant Practitioner, you will work as part of the dietetic team delivering delegated interventions to manage patients at risk of malnutrition. You will support a designated in-patient caseload and will follow up patients on discharge.
You will demonstrate an evidence-based understanding of nutrition, have good communication skills and be ready to work proactively as part of an enthusiastic, hardworking team. We are looking for individuals who are able to work independently and manage their own caseload within established guidelines. You will have good IT and administration skills to support resource development and data handling.
We offer departmental CPD time to support your development and are committed to the development of teaching and presentation skills, evidenced based practice, research and clinical audit. You will be supported in attending relevant networking meetings and clinical focus groups. We are approved for student placements 1,2 and 3. We have good support from administrative and Dietetic Assistants. The Health Board has University status with Colleges of Medicine on site.

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of a good standard of education with 5 GCSE’s Grade C and above, or equivalent, including English Language and Maths.
- Relevant higher education qualification at level 4 e.g. HNC or BTEC Level 4
- Nutrition Qualification at level 3 or equivalent e.g. Agored Cymru Level 3 Dietetic Support Worker Programme.
- Nutritional knowledge in relevant area such as oral nutrition support, weight management and diabetes.
- Knowledge of basic medical conditions and an understanding of health procedures relating to the work area.
Desirable criteria
- Membership of the British Dietetic Association.
- Structured staff or patient education, diabetes, weight management education.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant experience of working in NHS or Social care setting.
- Experience of team working.
- Experience of data inputting, computer literate.
- Experience of delivering group education.
Aptitude and abilities
Essential criteria
- Good communication skills with staff and patient/clients, with people from diverse backgrounds including use of diplomacy and persuasion in difficult circumstances
- Planning and organisational skills to cope with day-to-day tasks and activities
- Accurate keyboard skills- inputting data, word processing, internet.

- Able to set priorities and meet daily deadlines.
