Job overview

This is a fixed term post for 12 months due to maternity leave

An exciting role has been available, working as  part of  multidisciplinary team providing evidence based, low intensity psychological interventions, including group work, guided self help. This may include face to face or telephone  contacts or contacts through other media ( subject to UHB advances in technology and policy )

This is an exciting opportunity to take up a newly created role to work as part of the stepped model of care in Psychological Therapies in Swansea Bay Health Board.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of the service providing valuable first line interventions in the form of Low Intensity Psychological Therapies in group settings. There will also be an opportunity to work with High Intensity Psychological Therapists in developing and delivering the Psychological Therapy Service in Swansea Bay Health Board.
To provide a range of information and support for evidence based, high volume, low intensity psychological interventions for people with condition specific difficulties as described in Matric Cymru.
Attend Multi disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment. 
Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service. Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • HCPC/NMC registrant (as defined to be able to undertake assessments under Part 1 Mental Health Measure.) OR Eligible for Graduate Membership of BPS and successfully completed academic course of study/supervised practice in NHS settings or equivalent, in line with Matrics Cymru competences/standards for low-intensity psychological interventions/qualified as a PTP or have had training in older people’s interventions/ evidence based approaches in dementia. OR Counsellor/psychological therapist working towards accreditation with an appropriate body meeting the criteria for CfWI Psychological Therapist OR Have extensive experience in working with people with mental health conditions and have completed formal training in the delivery of low intensity psychological therapies as designated in Matrics Cymru.
  • Understanding of common mental health conditions and an understanding of the need to use evidence-based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
  • Good understanding of the Mental Health Measure Part 1 and 2, Matrics Cymru and the Psychological Therapies Plan (2017)
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates knowledge of societal issues and the impact it can have on mental health.
  • Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems and their effects.
  • Knowledge of and a willingness to work guided by the principles of prudent health care (as defined by the Welsh Government).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with people with mental health problems/dementia/neuro-developmental difficulty
  • Experience of working in NHS Primary Care Services/care homes/ in-patient services.
Desirable criteria
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place, demonstrating clinical outcomes.
  • Evidence of working in the local community

Aptitude and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to implement low intensity or group interventions for mental health problems or dementia
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills.
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time.
  • Competent in risk assessment.
  • Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
  • Ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
  • An ability to communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance and which is empathic and constructive.
  • Competence in research design and methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently within the boundaries of clinical supervision.
Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
