Job overview

This role will incorporate cross site cover to Singleton and Neath Port Talbot Hospital with main base at Morriston Hospital.

The Acute Pain Team provide their services for inpatients and all acute care site within the Health Board. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse with a keen interest in acute pain to join our established team. 

The successful candidate will be required to advise the wider MDT with regards to all aspects of pain management, including advice about Patient Controlled Analgesia and Epidural Analgesia as well as other aspects of pain management. Experienced in caring for patients with Epidural, PCA’s and other advanced pain management techniques is desirable.

The role requires the successful candidate to work directly with postoperative patients observing and monitoring their pain relief and will also involve providing teaching to ward based nurses and other health care professionals of all levels about safe care of patients with these advanced techniques.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work as part of a small dedicated team of CNS and along side their anaesthetic colleagues covering both adult in paediatric inpatients. The post holder will be required to provide specialist advice in all aspects of aspects of acute pain management across all acute hospital sites within the Health Board.

Crucial aspects of the post are to ensure safety and efficiency of complex pain management techniques, act as a credible resource for information on all aspects of acute pain as well as provision of teaching. Previous relevant experience of caring for patients with acute pain needs is essential, along with experience of managing patients with PCA’s and Epidurals.

The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a willingness to work at an enhanced level and the ability to practice autonomously. The successful candidate will have a good level of experience and practice within ideally the surgical directorate, as our patients are predominantly post-operative patients.
