Job overview
**THIS POST IS FIXED-TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 22 MONTHS DUE TO THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE.
If internal to NHS Wales, please contact your line manager before applying for this secondment position.
The service supports a range of state-of-the-art radiotherapy equipment that includes four Elekta linear accelerators (with SGRT and FFF capability), a Philips wide-bore CT-scanner, Elekta Monaco treatment planning system, utilising image fusion (ProSoma), auto segmentation and adaptive techniques (Mirada and AutoContour), and a well-developed oncology information management system (MOSAIQ), all deployed in a Citrix environment to provide electronic access across the South-West Wales region and facilitate complete remote and paperless working. The service supports a flexible approach, including working-from-home, unsociable hours and weekend working.
Treatment plans are prepared for a number of clinical trials and clinical sites using techniques that include IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, 4DCT and 4DCBCT and SGRT. The Cancer Centre is undergoing an equipment refresh, replacing our four linear accelerators, a dedicated new CT scanner and replacing our treatment planning system. The SWWCC has an ongoing collaboration agreement with Elekta to advance the next generation of radiotherapy workflow management software tools, keeping us at the forefront of developments.
Main duties of the job
As required, you will undertake various tasks independently and without supervision within treatment planning and Mould Room areas. The duties will include operating computer systems for treatment plans, organ-at-risk delineation and performing calculations relating to patient doses. Within the Mould Room, you will have direct contact with patients and work with oncologists and radiographers to produce individualised immobilisation devices. The post holder will also undertake measurement of radiation beams from the linear accelerators to verify treatment delivery accuracy.
You will be involved in undertaking and supervising clinical developments within the department through the introduction of new techniques. You will be responsible for supervising, teaching and training other staff and students within the department.
