Job overview

This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months due to funding.

If internal to NHS Wales, please contact your line manager before applying for this as a secondment position.

The Rehabilitation Engineering Unit (REU), located in the purpose-built Specialist Rehabilitation Centre at Morriston Hospital, provides services in special seating /postural management (wheelchairs), pressure ulcer prevention and intervention (PUPIS) and functional electrical stimulation (FES).

The REU team consists of Rehabilitation Engineers, Technicians, Clinical Scientists, Therapists, Nurses, Trainees and Administrators who support the provision of assistive technology services to patients in the South West Wales region. The multi-disciplinary team assess, design and manufacture medical devices (approximately 600 per year), providing engineering solutions to improve the function, mobility and quality of life of people with complex disabilities. We work collaboratively with end-users, families and healthcare professionals.

REU has an externally certified Quality Management System (QMS) and is a section within the Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering.

The Unit continues to build on its award-winning reputation, delivering high quality patient care. This is complemented by first class training, research and innovation activities linked with Universities in Wales and collaborations with other Rehabilitation Engineering services

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist.

They must be effective communicators and have experience working with patients with neuromuscular conditions, as well as an interest in biomechanical function.

The postholder will spend a proportion of their time participating in the department’s research and innovation projects. The time allocated and remit will be determined.
