Job overview
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and motivated pharmacist to develop specialist clinical skills by joining the pharmacy team supporting the tertiary cardiac centre at Morriston Hospital.
Morriston is a renowned centre of excellence for cardiovascular care in Wales, being 1 of 2 hospitals in Wales providing highly specialised cardiac. Our centre covers a wide region—from Pembrokeshire to Bridgend—and features one of the most efficient catheter labs in the UK.
This role offers the opportunity to rotate across the cardiac service, including exposure to highly specialised areas such as cardiac intensive care and coronary care within both cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery.
You will be fully integrated into a dynamic multidisciplinary team, supporting patients through expert medicines optimisation, clinical review, and discharge planning.
As a Specialist Cardiac Pharmacist, you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and patient-focused pharmacy care, while gaining valuable experience in a tertiary setting. Main duties of the job
- Work collaboratively with pharmacy colleagues, clinicians, nursing staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality pharmaceutical care to cardiac patients.
- Provide a predominantly ward-based clinical pharmacy service, supporting patients from admission through to discharge with medicines reconciliation, optimisation, and discharge planning.
- Deliver and supervise a range of medicines management services, ensuring safe, timely, and effective use of medicines across all areas.
- Identify opportunities to improve pharmaceutical services within the cardiac unit and contribute to the development and implementation of strategies that enhance efficiency, clinical quality, and patient satisfaction.
- Provide proactive, evidence-based medicines advice to prescribers to support safe, effective, and cost-efficient prescribing practices.
- Offer clinical leadership and mentorship to junior pharmacists, foundation trainees, and pharmacy students, supporting their development through supervision, teaching, and training.
- Participate in the pharmacy dispensary rota, contributing to the safe supply of medicines and supporting the wider pharmacy service as needed.

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Master’s Degree MPharm
- Post Graduate MSc/Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
- Current and continued registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Relevant post-registration experience in hospital clinical pharmacy
- Experience of working in a range of clinical specialities.
- Professionally accountable for own actions.
Desirable criteria
- Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
- Member of or working towards (through foundation) RPS Faculty membership
- Independent Prescriber Status
- Accredited tutor for Cardiff University MSc in Clinical Pharmacy.
- Experience of working with electronic discharge systems
- Experience of working with Patient’s Own Medication systems

- Demonstrates the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate therapeutic options in a variety of patients.
