Job overview

Service areas include all kitchen and dish wash sections, hospitality and retail sections including functions, restaurants and coffee shops, vending, ward trolley service and any other related areas. Duties include the cleaning of premises and equipment, simple food preparation and packaging, food service, vending and ward trolley service. The role will include undertaking duties in a chilled and/or frozen working and storage environment, as appropriate. The Lead Food Services Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Food Services Coordinator/Lead Food Production Cook/Team Leader with service provision, and undertakes day to day supervision of food services assistants/staff. In conjunction with the Food Services Coordinator/Lead Food Production Cook oversees the operation of associated Food Services areas.

Main duties of the job

A Lead Food Services Assistant is responsible for efficiently assisting in all Food Services areas as directed by their team leader and/or line manager and operating within established food hygiene and safety practices, methods and procedures and within the principles of a flexible team approach.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To manoeuvre catering equipment and provisions to/from associated areas. To ensure that food is received, stored, stock rotated and regenerated to the agreed temperatures as per Food Hygiene Legislation. The preparation, regeneration and cooking of simple dishes and liquids including breakfast items and back bar food, as directed in restaurants and other designated service points. The ordering of stock and the safe prompt service of all agreed food items including meals, snacks, confectionery, beverages and retail goods in all designated service points. Maintaining the prescribed portion control in the decanting and service of food and beverages. To lead and assist in the preparation, distribution, food service and clearing of special functions and theme days, to service users as necessary. To replenish and clean food and beverage machines, as required. To apply Health Board and Departmental Operational Policy when handling cash and operating cash registers, manual or electronic. The maintenance of high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout as per detailed cleaning schedules and safe systems of work .This will be achieved by agreed methods and will include the use of appropriate cleaning equipment (to include electrical) and cleaning chemicals. The completion of hard copy and electronic documentation in accordance with Food Hygiene legislation and Health Board policies and procedures, as directed.
