Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a band 6 Physiotherapist to work at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The post is a Band 6 general rotation which includes Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Care of the older person, Neurology and Respiratory.
The successful applicant will join our friendly teams and work between North Tyneside General Hospital, Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care hospital at Cramlington, Wansbeck General Hospital, Hexham General Hospital and a range of rehabilitation units across the trust.
The successful candidate will be required to participate in the seven-day working and Bank Holiday rota for inpatient services.
The successful candidate will also be required to contribute to the respiratory service at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care hospital. This includes an evening shadow on call rota and occasional nightshift commitment.

Main duties of the job
Applicants must be able to demonstrate experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist in orthopaedics, elderly care, Neurology and respiratory. We have a physiotherapy led NIV service, therefore NIV experience would be advantageous.
The successful applicant must also demonstrate excellent communication skills with both the multidisciplinary team and peers. There must be evidence of continued professional development demonstrating experience to support applications.
It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To assess, diagnose and treat an independent clinical caseload within the specialities
- To work as part of the physiotherapy team under the guidance and support of more experienced highly specialist senior physiotherapy staff.
- To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care in each rotation
- Contribute to student education
- To support the day-to-day leadership and organisation of the team
- To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries
Person specification
Qualifications / Professional Registration
Essential criteria
- BSC Honours degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent experience and/or qualification
- Registered Physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- Evidence of continued professional development through self directed learning, in-service training record and attendance at relevant short post graduate courses.
Desirable criteria
- Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
- Student training qualification provided by University
Experience and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Candidates should have completed their post graduate core rotations
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
- Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
