Job overview

Looking for your first step into a career in HR, recruitment or People services?

We're looking for a Recruitment & ESR Assistant to join our friendly and supportive Recruitment & ESR Team at Gateshead Health.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys helping people, staying organised and working as part of a busy team. You don't need previous experience in recruitment, HR or ESR systems—we'll provide the training and support you need to succeed.

In this role, you'll help people start their journey with Gateshead Health. From supporting recruitment campaigns and helping new colleagues join the Trust, to maintaining employee records and answering queries, you'll play an important part in ensuring our staff have a positive experience from day one.

Whether you're looking for your first office-based role, a career change, or a stepping stone into People & OD, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

Main duties of the job

As part of our Recruitment & ESR Team, you'll provide administrative support that helps keep essential people processes running smoothly across the Trust.

A typical day might include:

  • Supporting recruitment campaigns and helping candidates through the recruitment process, promoting Gateshead Health as a great place to work.
  • Preparing employment documents and processing information for new starters.
  • Updating and maintaining employee records accurately.
  • Responding to telephone and email enquiries from staff and managers.
  • Helping colleagues access workforce systems and services.
  • Working with sensitive information confidentially and professionally.
  • Producing routine reports and carrying out data quality checks.

This is a varied role where no two days are exactly the same. You'll gain experience across recruitment, workforce systems, customer service and administration while working alongside experienced colleagues who will support your development.

Working for our organisation

Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

Established in 2005, we were one of the first foundation trusts in the country and since then have consistently achieved the highest levels of care for patients.

We now employ around 4,800 staff and currently provide 444 hospital beds across the Gateshead region.

Our values should be the ‘golden thread’ which runs through everything we do – they are the core of who we are. Our five values can easily be remembered by the simple acronym ICORE; Innovation, Care, Openness, Respect, Engagement.

We have a number of staff networks including the BAME network, D-Ability network, LGBTQ+ Network and the Women’s Network, to challenge us and help us to constantly improve. Our armed forces network is one of our emerging networks.

The health and wellbeing of our staff is one of our highest priorities, and we offer a range of support and initiatives as part of our ‘Balance’ programme balancegateshead.com to cater for our diverse workforce, so that your individual needs can be supported, allowing you a happy and healthy working experience with us.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Recruitment & ESR Assistant is an important member of the People & OD team.

  • Be one of the first points of contact for recruitment and employee record queries.
