This post is being advertised jointly between CNTW and Pears Cumbria school of medicine. This will be a 10 PA post with 4 sessions with an educational focus and 6 clinical focussed sessions. 

You will have your own office space and will be supported by a medical assistant and/or medical secretary.  We are looking for applicants based anywhere in the UK to explore exciting new opportunities in remote and digital working.

The clinical post is a substantive and full-time post although the PCSM element of the role would be for three years in the first instance however this will be reviewed, however we would be happy to consider applicants available on a part time or fixed term basis.

Main duties of the job

The clinical role will be based in Cumbria, with a focus that can be flexible according to the successful applicant’s clinical expertise, with opportunities of working into adult, older age and child psychiatry as well as in community and inpatient settings. Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of mental health, learning disability and neurological care services across the North East and North Cumbria.  

The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM) is a new venture between the University of Cumbria and Imperial College London. Our aim is to produce doctors committed to delivering cutting-edge healthcare approaches and serve the needs of the Cumbria community. The PCSM four-year graduate entry MBBS programme will equip students with generalist skills and the ability to adapt and apply knowledge to different environments, circumstances and challenges. A percentage of the role will be delivering Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer activity for the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine, a collaboration between Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria. You will be working as one of the subject leads for Psychiatry developing and delivering the curriculum, from the anatomy and pathophysiology to the design of suitable clinical placements across the Cumbria region.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applicants should be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the point of interview. Candidates should be suitably qualified, including eligibility for Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status.  Experience in medical education, including teaching and pedagogical methodologies, is also essential.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.
  • Included on GMC Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT.
  • Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • Approved Clinician Status.
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
  • Postgraduate qualification in education
  • Has undergone training in educational supervision
  • Has undergone training in appraisal.
  • Membership or Fellowship with a national or international educational body

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry.
  • Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation.
Desirable criteria
  • An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
  • Wide clinical experience in Psychiatry in different clinical settings.
  • Experience of Clinical Audit.
  • Experience in medical education, in teaching and curriculum design
  • Experience of teaching and learning methodologies in undergraduate and postgraduate education
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies.
