Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for one qualified ACP with experience in acute or emergency care to join the Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust . This role is suitable for an individual that is keen to be part of a fast-paced environment where every day is different.
The SDEC unit aims to reduce the need for hospital admissions, improve patient safety and satisfaction by offering same day assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment for a range of urgent and emergency conditions. The post holder will be required to work as a leading part a of multi-disciplinary team to support the provision of an effective and safe clinical service.
The Unit is currently open 8am-9pm 7 days a week for 365 days a year, with staff working on a rota to meet the needs of the service.
This qualified ACP post is to join an established experienced team of 4 other ACP’s, all of whom have other sub speciality interests that inform some of the acute medicine pathways through SDEC.
SDEC and the acute medicine medical team has an established track record of supporting the role of the ACP within the service to achieve high standards of care for patients.

Main duties of the job
· Take a lead in the provision of specialist clinical knowledge and advice to other staff, the wider multi-professional team, allied health professionals, patients and their families/carers and partner organisations
· Take a lead in the provision of education and training for other practitioners and allied health professionals; including health promotion
· The post holder will take a lead role within a team who provides high quality specialist clinical care
· The post is based in SDEC.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To assist in leading and coordinating the delivery and development of SDEC through the use of effective evidence based practice in line with agreed national standards for patient safety and clinical practice
· To provide the highest standard of holistic care for patients through the utilisation of advanced clinical skills and advice in the assessment and management of patients, working autonomously and with the multi-disciplinary team to improve the quality and safety of patient care
· To work autonomously and be accountable for the planning and delivery of all aspects of patient care in SDEC and as set out in the relevant professional code
· To continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework to ensure the highest quality of care is provide in the safest manner
· To provide clinical leadership, expertise and specialist clinical advice and support to clinical staff on the management and care of patients within SDEC and lead the effective delivery of care to patients
· To lead the in provision of expert specialist knowledge, care and experience to support to the wider multidisciplinary team to facilitate the effective delivery of care to patients at all times
· To take a lead and participate in the continuing improvement of services in line with the Trust objectives
· To provide education and training to clinical staff/Nurse Practitioners within SDEC and internal/external agencies

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current NMC Registration, or Paramedic or AHP with registered professional qualification
- Completion of ACP MSc Apprenticeship
Desirable criteria
- Already on ACP MSc apprenticeship programme due to complete within the next 6 months
Skills, Knowledge and Aptitude
Essential criteria
- Expert knowledge and clinical skills in Acute Medicine
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience of working in acute or emergency care as a trainee or qualified ACP
- Substantial experience of care delivery
