Job overview
As a Desktop Support Assistant within the IT Support Services team at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, your primary responsibility will be to install, configure, and maintain new hardware for staff across the Trust. You will play a vital role in ensuring that desktops, laptops, and other IT equipment are set up efficiently and meet the needs of users, contributing to the seamless delivery of services across clinical and administrative departments.
In addition to hardware installation and configuration, you will assist with basic troubleshooting, addressing minor hardware and software issues to ensure minimal disruption to staff. You will also support the management of hardware stock, including tracking inventory and ensuring that equipment is available when needed.
Your role is crucial in maintaining the functionality of IT services, ensuring staff have the necessary tools to perform their work, and supporting the efficient operation of the Trust's digital infrastructure.
Main duties of the job

Hardware Installation & Configuration: Install, configure, and set up new desktops, laptops, and peripheral devices for staff across the Trust, ensuring they meet required specifications and are fully operational.

Basic Troubleshooting: Provide first-line support for basic hardware and software issues, performing troubleshooting and resolving minor technical problems to minimise disruption to staff and services.

Stock Management: Assist in managing hardware inventory, including tracking stock levels, ensuring equipment is properly stored, and assisting with the procurement of new hardware when required.

User Support: Offer guidance and assistance to users on hardware setup, configuration, and basic technical issues, providing a high level of customer service
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of hardware installations, configurations, troubleshooting steps, and stock inventory. Provide reports on hardware status and requirements.

Collaboration with IT Team: Work closely with other members of the IT support team to resolve more complex issues and ensure smooth coordination across IT functions.

Assist with IT Projects: Support the IT team with various projects, such as hardware upgrades and system deployments, ensuring successful completion and minimal impact on operations.

Hardware Setup & Configuration: Take responsibility for installing, configuring, and setting up new desktop, laptop, and peripheral devices for staff, ensuring systems are ready for use and aligned with Trust requirements.

Basic Troubleshooting & Support: Provide first-line support by diagnosing and resolving basic hardware and software issues, ensuring quick resolutions to minimize downtime.

Stock Management: Assist in managing the hardware inventory, including tracking and maintaining adequate stock levels of equipment and peripherals, and ensuring all assets are appropriately documented and stored.

System Maintenance: Perform routine updates and maintenance tasks on hardware, ensuring that devices are functioning optimally and securely, with appropriate software patches and configurations.

User Assistance: Offer guidance to staff on using IT equipment, helping with setup, configuration, and resolving minor technical problems to enhance user experience and productivity.

Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate logs of hardware installations, repairs, troubleshooting actions, and inventory, ensuring all information is up to date and easily accessible.
