Job overview

The advertised post is suitable for individuals who aim to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine and who wish to develop an interest in teaching. Ideally the person will have completed Foundation Training (or equivalent) as the post is suitable for a doctor who would function at Tier 1 level, (SHO grade/Junior Clinical Teaching Fellow).

 

 

Main duties of the job

Successful applicant would join the emergency department team in the Emergency Care Centre that opened in February 2015. The successful candidates will be involved in coordinating and providing the undergraduate clinical teaching programme and will undertake sessions of clinical duties and professional development. The main clinical duties are to support a busy emergency department.

The successful applicant will have the option of being sponsored to study for the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education or, if in possession of the Certificate, may wish to pursue the Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education. This should be completed during the year of their employment within the Trust and is subject to a financial cap.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to assess and manage patients Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust presenting to the emergency department with a wide spectrum of emergency presentations. You will be involved in the resuscitation of acutely ill and injured  patients and will be part of the trauma team. You will be expected to work closely with senior colleagues to facilitate good clinical care. Service delivery will be on the junior grade rota.

 

The successful candidate will also play a key role in the coordination, organization and delivery of the undergraduate clinical teaching programme.  A close working relationship with the Undergraduate Medical Education Coordinator ensures a well structured teaching experience for undergraduate medical trainees. The post is for a fixed twelve-month period (August 2025 to August 2026).

Essential criteria
  • Basic Medical Qualification
  • UK GMC Registration
  • BLS training or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • ALS/ATLS

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Experience in posts recognised for General Professional Training
  • Experience in Emergency Medicine
  • At least 1 year NHS experience
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant experience in specialties allied to EM
  • Involvement in research or simulation

DISPOSITION

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work with and support members of a multidisciplinary team

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Essential criteria
  • Ability to fully participate in rota
