Job overview
The advertised post of Clinical Teaching Fellow (CTF) is tenable for a fixed term of 12 months commencing August 2026. Please note that this vacancy is only open to applicants with a minimum of 24 months NHS experience at time of start date.
Main duties of the job
Successful candidates will play an integral role in the delivery of the undergraduate clinical teaching programme for medical students from the University of Newcastle. The department provides teaching from early clinical experience visits to ward-based assistantships. Teaching is provided across a variety of settings, and the successful candidate will spend approximately 20 hours per week delivering this. The remaining 20 hours will consist of clinical duties across ward, clinic and theatre. The post does include an on-call commitment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Each CTF will work alongside a consultant in their designated teams attending outpatients, theatre, and endoscopy sessions. They will also be expected to attend the multidisciplinary team meetings. The department has an excellent reputation with a proven track record for research and published clinical audit in Breast, Colorectal, Upper GI and Vascular Surgery. There are established links for research with the department of Surgery in the University
This post includes the opportunity for the successful applicant to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education during their employment within the Trust. Any formal qualification will be undertaken during the year of employment within the Trust and is subject to a financial cap (international applicants may not be eligible for this funding and if wishing to pursue a qualification, eligibility should be confirmed prior to application
