Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a nurse experienced in Dementia care to join a collaboration between Dementia UK and Gateshead Health as an Acute Admiral Nurse Team.  

The team provide support, advice, guidance and training to clinicians to enable them to provide the right care and interventions to patients who have been admitted for treatment of their physical health with a diagnosis of Dementia.  The team also provide support to families and carers, and will support with assessments of patients.  The team work closely with the Community Admiral Nurses to ensure smooth transitions for patients with Dementia.  

This role is fixed term for a period of 12 months and is specifically to support with improving Tier 1 and Tier 2 Dementia awareness training across the Trust.  It is therefore important that the right candidate has significant experience and interest in Dementia care, and has experience in delivering training.

Main duties of the job

The Admiral Nurse will support, deliver and coordinate relationship-centred dementia care within Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust in order to improve the experience of carers/families affected by dementia with complex needs.

In line with the Admiral Nurse Competency framework at a specialist level, the post holder will provide:

  1. Specialist bio-psychosocial assessment and support for people with dementia, and families with complex needs
  2.  Facilitation of education and training for staff in the delivery of evidence-based dementia care
  3. Support with policy development and quality improvements in relation to dementia care
  4. Consultancy to other health and social care professionals regarding dementia
  5. Work together with families to provide support, expert guidance & practical solutions.

Registered Nurse (RNM/RNMH/RGN/RNLD) 

 

Post-graduate training/ education in dementia/older people

 

Willingness to complete Dementia UK’s Pre Admiral Nursing e-learning course prior to starting in post

Willingness to work towards continued professional and practice development through Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurse Academy, including the level 6 or 7 Admiral Nurse Competency Framework Module.

Relevant Teaching Qualification 

Post-registration clinical experience of working with people with dementia and their carers/supporters in different settings, including primary care

 

Experience of completing holistic nursing assessments

 

Experience of providing bio-psychosocial interventions

 

Experience of facilitating and delivering training

 

Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner
