Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Therapy Assistant to become part of our CCU/genral surgery therapy team. We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated and enthusiastic who is seeking an opportunity to progress rehabilitation programmes to patients on critical care and those who have undergone general surgical procedures.

 

Your role will involve working alongside physiotherapists and occupational therapists on the wards supporting with assessment through to a safe and timely discharge from hospital.

 

You will receive a robust competency training programme which will be further developed through regular training and supervision sessions with senior members of the team.

 

You will be will be expected to participate in 7 day working rotas; including weekend and bank holiday shifts.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake support work to help with the rehabilitation of patients
  • Carry out clinical duties and routine admin/clerical within the department under the direction of a therapist
  • Provide therapeutic intervention according to set treatment protocols, rehabilitation prescriptions, monitoring progression as required under the direct supervision of the therapist.
  • Reporting back patient progress and informing the therapist of any problems or concerns.
  • To carry out general housekeeping tasks to enable patients to be assessed and treated in a clean and clear environment.
  • The post holder will be required to contribute to a 7 day service, which includes weekends and bank holiday shifts.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work primarily with an allocated clinical area but would provide cross cover across the service as required within the limits of competencies.

To accept allocated workload referred by therapists and to manage own patient caseload under the direct supervision.

To be responsible for implementing prescribed treatment programmes with an allocated caseload, as allocated by a registered therapist.   

To document interventions accurately and promptly and to keep the overseeing therapist informed as necessary regarding patient care.

To maintain stock and equipment including reordering.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE in Maths (Grade C / Level 4 or above)
  • GCSE in English (Grade C / Level 4 or above)
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ in Health Care (or equivalent) or other relevant training

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Demonstrates evidence of good time management and organisational skills
  • Able to carry out frequent manual handling tasks on a daily basis
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with patients within hospital/community/social care/MDT setting
  • Previous experience of working as a therapy assistant
