Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 5 Physiotherapist to join the inpatient neuro rehabilitation team at Walkergate Park. 

Walkergate Park is a Level 1 specialist neurorehabilitation centre, providing specialist, multidisciplinary rehabilitation for individuals with complex neurological conditions from across the North East and North Cumbria. Our service supports patients with a range of diagnoses including Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke.

The successful candidate will work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, delivering specialist physiotherapy assessment and rehabilitation. You will contribute to the development and implementation of individualised treatment plans, working collaboratively with patients, families, and colleagues to optimise functional outcomes.

Key Requirements:

  •  Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  •  Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Knowledge of a range of neurological conditions and the rehabilitation process
  • Effective communication and team-working skills

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the assessment and management and physiotherapy service provision for service users who have a variety of physiotherapy needs, diverse presentations and a range of neurological conditions.

To manage and provide on-going assessment and treatment using evidence based practice.

The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that high quality, individualised care is delivered and that this maximises independence and promotes recovery and wellbeing.

To contribute to physiotherapy student education.

To provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.

To provide clinical supervision to Assistant Practitioners and Clinical Support Assistants as delegated by the Clinical Lead.

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Physiotherapy degree qualification or equivalent
  • Registered with HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with people with acquired neurological conditions (as student or post-graduate)
  • Awareness of MDT working
  • Awareness of and adherence to CSP Standards.
  • Ability to establish a rapport with service users.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of different clinical presentations of acquired brain injury/neurological conditions and their impact on function
  • Evidence of patient centred approach and knowledge of goal setting
  • Ability to clearly communicate clinical information, considering a variety of strategies to support people with complex communication/cognitive needs as a result of their neurological condition
  • Meets the mobility requirements of the post.
  • Ability to assess and implement appropriate treatment plans
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of management of spasticity
  • Knowledge of outcome measures relevant to neuro-rehabilitation
