Are you passionate about saving lives and ensuring best practice in resuscitation and emergency care?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Resuscitation Officer at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW). Based at St Nicholas Hospital in Newcastle, you'll play a key role in leading the design, delivery and evaluation of our resuscitation training and simulation events across a mental health Trust.

As the Trust’s Subject Matter Expert in resuscitation, you will provide expert advice and guidance to clinical teams, leadership groups and policy makers, supporting the delivery of safe, evidence-based care for deteriorating patients.

The role involves direct delivery of high-quality resuscitation education, development of resuscitation trainers and link staff, involvement in serious incident reviews, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of patient outcomes and safety.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead on Trust-wide resuscitation and deteriorating patient training to meet national standards and compliance.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert in resuscitation, providing advice, guidance and specialist knowledge.
  • Deliver Basic and Immediate Life Support training for adult and paediatric care, aligned with Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines.
  • Develop policy, lead audits, and contribute to clinical governance, improving patient safety and outcomes.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and supervision to resuscitation trainers and link staff.
  • Support staff debriefing and provide expert advice following resuscitation attempts and clinical emergencies.
  • Ensure safe maintenance and effective use of resuscitation training equipment and resources.

About you
To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A professional qualification (RGN, Paramedic, ODP) and current clinical experience in an acute/critical/emergency care setting.
  • A recognised teaching qualification and evidence of delivering high-quality training.
  • Completion of a Resuscitation Council (UK) accredited life support course (ALS, EPALS or ILS ).
  • Excellent knowledge of resuscitation practice, deteriorating patient care, and national standards.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to lead service development.
  • Flexibility to travel between sites and deliver training Trust-wide.

Education and qualification

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional qualification (RGN, Paramedic, ODP)
  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Recognised teaching qualification and/or equivalent experience.
  • Have evidence of successful attendance at a Resuscitation Council (UK) accredited advanced life support course (ALS, EPALS, ILS or PILS) in the last four years
Desirable criteria
  • Resuscitation Council (RC) Advanced Life Support Instructor
  • Leadership/Management qualification
  • Master’s degree

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent knowledge of basic life support skills, deteriorating patients and appropriate treatment, including evidence of teaching others in some capacity.
  • Current clinical experience of working in an acute/critical/emergency care setting
  • Demonstrate excellent up to date knowledge of Resuscitation literature, techniques and evidence
  • Experience of planning, development and delivery of training courses
  • Experience of designing and undertaking audits
Desirable criteria
  • Experienced Resuscitation Officer
  • Specialist knowledge, clinical experience and skills in the different areas of Resuscitation
  • Experience of working in a mental health setting
  • Experience of developing and implementing policies
