Job overview
The Newcastle Hospitals and Community Services Staff Bank provide temporary staff to various wards and departments across the Trust.
We are seeking Healthcare Assistants to join our Staff Bank supporting service delivery within our organisation.

Main duties of the job
Our Staff Bank aims to supply appropriately skilled staff to cover temporary shortages across both Acute and Community settings.
We are looking for dedicated individuals to become part of our team of valued Bank Staff where you will play a crucial role in our ongoing service delivery within our organisation delivering high standards of clinical care.

- All posts are subject to NHS pre-employment checks including occupational health clearance and DBS (where appropriate).
- All pay progression is conditional upon a positive outcome at annual appraisal.
- All successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month’s pay. You will be required to sign a DBS payment form which will be issued to you as part of your recruitment process.
- All new employees will be required to attend the Trust induction programme and complete appropriate mandatory training requirements.
- Where professional registration is required for a post it is the responsibility of the employee to maintain their registration.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To abide by Trust policies and procedures
- To assist the registered nurses (or other healthcare practitioners) in providing high quality patient care
- Maintain patients’ privacy and dignity at all times and provide care in a compassionate and sensitive manner.
- Be an effective part of the multi-disciplinary team contributing to the departmental objectives.
- Continue to develop and maintain competencies in nursing tasks to maintain high quality safe care.
- Post holder will be expected to contribute to housekeeping and other ward / department duties as required, e.g. general tidiness, re-determined stock levels are met and clinical equipment is clean, working and stored correctly.
- Assist with admin & clerical duties as required.
Person specification
Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
- Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent level qualification or equivalent relevant experience
- GCSEs in English and Maths at Grades 3-1 (or D-G or Level 1 Functional/Key Skills)
Desirable criteria
- GCSEs in English and Maths at Grades 9-4 (or A*-C or Level 2 Functional/Key Skills)
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Understanding of confidentiality
- Experience of caring in a health care setting
Desirable criteria
- An understanding of working in the NHS
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to work effectively under direct supervision, as part of the multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to communicate with members of the public and health care providers
- Ability to meet basic care needs of patients, washing, dressing and assistance with feeding etc
Desirable criteria
- Venepuncture skills
- Competent in physical skills e.g. recording ECGs, recording blood glucose etc
