Job overview

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team. 

This post is to commence 6 August 2025 until 4 August 2026.

The successful candidate will participate in the registrar on call rota, covering both gynaecology and obstetrics. This will include delivery suite cover and acute gynaecology and early pregnancy. We operate a 1 in 8 on call rota including nights and weekends. 

Day time activities include antenatal clinics, general gynaecology clinics and rapid access. In addition there will be opportunities to cover theatre, outpatient hysteroscopy and specialist clinics such as urogynaecology, fetal medicine and endometriosis. 

Candidates require GMC registration at time of application and previous paid NHS experience. Experience in obstetrics and gynaecology is essential. Successful candidates will be passionate about women’s health and keen to develop further skills including caesarean section, operative vaginal delivery and laparoscopy.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor to join our dynamic team of resident and trust grade doctors.

We hope this will be a good opportunity to work in a busy, tertiary unit. Giving the candidate unique experiences in oncology, endometriosis, urogynaecology and fetal medicine. 

This role will support the tier 2 rota, allowing all doctors to participate in educational sessions and rotate into specialist areas.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical:
•    Participate in on call cover on a 1 in 8 rolling basis (covering delivery suite, antenatal and postnatal wards, early pregnancy and acute gynaecology). Support day time activities including clinics, day case procedures and theatres. There will also be many opportunities to engage in departmental audit, teaching and risk management. 
•    You will be allocated an educational and clinical supervisor and have the opportunity to engage in collecting portfolio evidence and develop skills in your area of interest. 

Administrative:
•    Participate in audit, quality improvement
•    Be responsible for writing clinic letters, chasing admin for the on call team and maintain flow of discharge letters 

Research:

•    We have several NIHR studies for you to be involved in

Teaching:
•    We are a large teaching hospital and expect candidates to engage in delivering teaching to peers and medical students both bedside and didactic.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary Medical Qualification
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practise at time of application
Desirable criteria
  • MRCOG

Clinical Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous paid NHS experience
  • Good history & examination skills
  • Carry out basic caesarean section independently
  • Can safely undertake speculum examination and antenatal checks
  • Able to formulate a working diagnosis
  • Able to order appropriate investigations
  • Image interpretation relevant to practice
  • Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague
Desirable criteria
  • Competent at instrumental delivery
  • Able to safely run labour ward with consultant support

Management and Administration Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to run a service and participate in management process
  • Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfil the obligations of the Directorate to the Trust and its workforce
  • Able to communicate well with patients and colleagues
  • An understanding of Clinical Governance
