Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen on Ward 12 at North Tyneside Hospital. We require one nursing assistant to join our team. Ward 12 is an innovative and forward thinking, 23  bedded Care of the  Elderly Ward.

We are looking for experienced candidates who have a commitment to ensuring safe and high-quality care is delivered to our patients, as well as being a role model and supporting other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

On Ward 12 there is a strong focus on multidisciplinary team working, to ensure safe and timely patient discharges or transfers to appropriate care settings.

You will be expected to work as part of a dynamic nursing team, delivering all aspects of care to patients and have excellent communication skills. Previous experience in a similar setting is desirable, but not essential. These posts will be rotational between day/night shift and cover seven days a week.

Main duties of the job

  • The role includes assisting the qualified nursing staff
  • Delivering high quality direct and indirect patient care
  • Assisting and supporting patients, carers and the multi-disciplinary team
  • Maintaining high clinical standards
  • Maintaining a clean and safe ward environment
  • The post involves working a variety of shifts over the 24 hour period, including weekends and bank holidays and night duty; individuals need to be flexible to the needs of the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To assist the qualified nurses in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
  • To give basic nursing care, e.g.; assistance with personal hygiene, eating and drinking, mobility needs, washing under direct or indirect supervision. Monitor patients observations and vital signs including fluid balance
  • To report accurately perceived changes in a patients manner, observation, eating habits etc.
  • To promote health within the ward setting.
  • Organises own day to day work tasks or activities under supervision of qualified staff
  • Able to respond to the changing needs of patients and ward routines.

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous care experience in a health or social care setting
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of completed competencies aligned to the service area
  • Customer Care course

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Completion of a competency-based programme or equivalent relevant experience
  • Level 3 qualification in a healthcare related subject or a portfolio of equivalent demonstrable experience
