Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Registered Mental Health Nurses to join the Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP). The vacancy is for our functional mental health ward (Ward 21).

We are very passionate about delivering high quality person centred care for our patients and providing support for carers/relatives.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide nursing care to a caseload of patients and to provide verbal and written handovers to nursing colleagues and the multi disciplinary team.
  • When responsible for the ward/dept to ensure that individualised programmes of care are formulated and carried out fully for each patient on the ward/dept (up to 30 patients in a ward area).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care working as a member of the ward team under the direction of the Ward Manager. 
  • To be responsible for the organising and co-ordination of nursing services in the ward/dept in the absence of senior staff on a regular basis. 
  • To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. 
  • To be responsible for all nursing care standards and to maintain high clinical standards.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to 
    promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

Essential criteria
  • 1st Level live NMC Registered Mental Nurse
  • Registered Mentor. Mentorship qualification of relevant qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period)
Desirable criteria
  • PP126/7
  • D32/33
  • Post Registration qualification in specialty
  • Diploma/degree in nursing

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
