Job overview
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic candidate with excellent communication skills to our functional bowel team. The successful candidate will have the ability to work autonomously and be able to make a valuable contribution to the team. The post holder will be expected to work primarily in the acute setting within the colorectal unit. Liaising with health care professionals is an essential part of the role, including all members of the MDT, primary care and relevant external providers such as technical support representatives.
Extensive experience in the specialty is essential with specific clinical skills and competencies in the management of bowel dysfunction patients, including biofeedback and pelvic floor. They will be expected to manage nurse/AHP led clinics and deliver care both pre and post treatment as well as providing specialist advice and support to patients within Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital Trust and also to the wider area, with the caseload including referrals from other local trusts.

Main duties of the job
Manage nurse led/AHP led functional bowel service clinic incorporating biofeedback and pelvic floor treatments.
Communicate with patients and MDT.
Advise patients on functional bowel disorders.
Record keeping
Signposting patients to relevant services
Liaise with community services as appropriate

Essential criteria
- Advanced knowledge of a range of medical conditions and their impact on patient’s functional abilities.
- Sound knowledge of the physiotherapy process

- Ability to present information, written and orally in a clear and logical manner
- NHS experience in a rotational post providing a broad range of experience across the core areas of physiotherapy including pelvic floor and bowel dysfunction management
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Degree or equivalent Diploma in Physiotherapy
- State Registered with Health & Care Professions Council
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of undertaking research and audit projects
- Knowledge of current NHS issues e.g. NSF’s Improving Working Lives

- Presentation Skills
- Specialist treatment skills e.g. manual therapy
- Previous experience in a senior post
