There is a requirement for an enthusiastic person to join the Trust’s Electronics & Medical Engineering Team. The successful candidate will be involved in the maintenance, calibration and repair of a wide range of medical devices including home ventilation equipment, patient monitoring and other complex specialist equipment used within a modern hospital environment and the community.

A Higher National Certificate or equivalent specialist study/experience in a medical electronic maintenance related discipline is essential, as is a current driving license as the post-holder will be required to carry out maintenance in the community, patients homes and on hospital sites.
The successful candidate will be required to rotate to any hospital site/location to meet the demands of the service. The base site will be confirmed at interview.

- The Medical Engineering Technician – Home Ventilation & Community is responsible for the maintenance, calibration and repair of a range of medical electronic devices, some of which are complex and technologically advanced requiring an in-depth knowledge of current engineering techniques.
- Carry out planned maintenance, repair, calibration and servicing of medical equipment within patients’ homes and community sites. There may be some limited requirement to service hospital-based equipment from time to time.
- To provide technical support to the Northern Regional home ventilation department and paediatric service which covers from the Scottish borders in the North to York in the South and Cumbria in the West of the region. Approx 3 days per week on road.
- To provide technical support to community sites such as walk in centres.
- Acceptance tests new equipment.
- Train medical and technical staff in the use of medical devices.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the department or management to support the effective functioning of the team

- HNC in Medical/Electronics/Electrical Engineering related subject plus short courses, or equivalent training and experience.
- Current full UK driving licence

- Recognised IT competency qualification
- Biomedical Equipment Practice Course (e.g., Eastwood Park)
Knowledge & Experience

- Significant experience in an electronic maintenance related discipline.
- A sound working knowledge of current analogue and digital electronics is essential.
- An appreciation of mechanical, pneumatic and electro-mechanical applications
- A full understanding of the operation and calibration of diagnostic test equipment

- Knowledge of NHS regulations and guidance relating to medical device maintenance
- Previous experience working in a medical electronics maintenance field.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 environment
- Previous experience as a field service engineer

- Ability to effectively communicate with NHS staff at all levels
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Computer use including database, word processing, internet and email
