Job overview

Ward 35 is a busy regional Neonatal unit at the RVI. We have 40 cots consisting of an Intensive Care, a High dependency Care and Special care area.

Due to expansion of services, an opportunity has arisen for a Ward Housekeeper to join our existing housekeeping team on Ward 35. The position includes evening and weekend working.

We are looking for a motivated, organised and hardworking individual who can work well within a team, can prioritise workload and when required, assist and support the team during busy periods.

They will work with the team to provide a clean welcoming environment for the babies and families, replenish and organise stock and supplies.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible in assisting the team to maintain an exceptionally clean, safe and comfortable environment for our special patients and their families.

Their duties will include cleaning incubators and other essential equipment, collecting and organising the washing and drying of baby linen and clothes.

They will ensure adequate equipment and resources are available to support the nursing and medical teams by restocking supplies in the clinical Bays and stabilisation areas. They will provide a clean and organised beverage/ waiting area for families and provide them with refreshments.

The successful individual must have excellent communication skills. They will liaise closely with the team and keep them informed of progress with their duties. They should possess the skills to communicate with the families and report any appropriate matters to the nurse in charge.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Be an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team assisting the Ward / Department to maintain a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the patients, their families and visitors.
  • Report any concerns regarding the patient’s condition to the qualified nurse.
  • Maintain patient’s privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Report to the Nurse in Charge any issues that may prevent cleaning or compromise the safety of the environment.
  • Actively contribute to the provision of nutrition of the patients on the Ward / Department.
  • May undertake administrative and clinical duties as required.
  • To abide by Trust policies and procedures.
