Job overview
We are looking to recruit a well motivated enthusiastic Information Assistant. The successful candidate must be flexible, reliable and have excellent communication and organisational skills. This will be a challenging role, proven computing skills and the ability to work as part of a team is essential.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the collation and speedy input of accurate, complete data as part of the Child Health Information Team. Routine reports using MS Office software packages.
The post will be based at The Northumbria Healthcare Manufacturing and Innovation Hub, Avenue Road, Seaton Delaval, but the postholder may be required to work at other sites within the Trust.
The post is subject to the terms and conditions of the Administrative and Clerical Staff Whitley Council and General Whitley Council.

Main duties of the job
Responsible for accurate input of quality data, and dissemination of output, accountable for meeting requirements in respect of data protection and Health and Safety.
Update the Child Health Information System ensure the recording of all children’s health interventions, timely and accurate input and production of complete data as part of the Child Health Information Team.
Use the National Strategic Tracing Service to trace patient information in line with Caldicott guidelines.
Provide quality information for Neonatal Hearing Screening Programme.
Assist in the production of routine reports using MS Office XP software packages.
Dissemination of post.
Taking messages for colleagues and forwarding calls.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Communication regarding all medical information including, birth details, Neonatal Screening results, Health checks & Immunisations, evaluation quality of data and reporting erroneous data to the source ensuring all data is clean and relevant before entry to relevant information system.
Locate and request health records of children moving into the area, on receipt collate and compile for the health visitor ensuring all data is transferred onto the computer. Highlight any missing information i.e. immunisations.
Ensure all health notes and computer records are kept up-to-date i.e. changes to name, address, GP, and where appropriate inform relevant health professional.
Provide assistance to Information System Manager to introduce new procedures for data collection within the department, working together to provide patient information to the Neonatal Screening Team to enable the Trust to meet targets.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to G.C.S.E. or equivalent level of knowledge and / or experience, with RSA or equivalent keyboard skills, along with knowledge of patient information systems.
- Previous experience of working in an office environment particularly NHS or other health body
Desirable criteria
- RSA III Keyboard skills
- ECDL
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Previous experience of using computerised Patient based information systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology in particular coding skills required for the National Immunisation and Health Surveillance programme for children.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in NHS
