Job overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed physiotherapist to join the Older Person’s Medicine Physiotherapy team based between the RVI and Freeman Hospital. This is a permanent rotational post. Rotational areas include front of house, older persons medicine wards at RVI and Freeman, orthopaedic rehabilitation ward and day units. The team works closely with OT, nursing and medical colleagues and this post would be supported by experienced Band 7 Physiotherapists across the Older Person’s Medicine wards and work closely, when appropriate, with the Integrated Falls and Day Units Band 7s as well as a Clinical Specialist in Frailty.
There is opportunity for supervision and mentorship of students, band 2 – 4s and band 5 rotational physiotherapists

Main duties of the job
Close working relationships are essential across the team and the successful applicant would need to be flexible and a good team worker, as well as maintaining the vision of delivering the highest standards of physiotherapy care to the patients within their remit
The post holder will be part of a senior network for peer support and professional development and will also contribute to the training of band 5 physiotherapists, assistant staff and students on placement.
There is opportunity to be involved in service development and encouragement and support will be given to enable a project or audit to be undertaken during each rotation
You will be required to work as part of the OPM weekend rota and respiratory night on call rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice to a complex patient group on Older People’s Medicine.
Senior posts are designed to consolidate and build on skills and academic
knowledge gained during the first two years post graduation allowing the
physiotherapist an opportunity to spend longer in specific areas of work enabling further development of more specialist clinical and managerial competencies.
Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month’s pay.

KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Advanced knowledge of a range of medical conditions and their impact on patient’s functional abilities
- Sound knowledge of the physiotherapy process
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of undertaking research and audit projects
- Knowledge of current NHS issues e.g. NSF’s Improving Working Lives
SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Organisation and time management skills
- Ability to work as part of a team

- Ability to present information, written and orally in a clear and logical manner
Desirable criteria

EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Experience as a junior physiotherapist in a rotational post providing a broad range of experience across the core areas of physiotherapy
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in a senior rotational scheme
- Experience of working with patients with physical health problems e.g. stroke, mobility problems
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent Diploma in Physiotherapy
- State Registered with Health & Care Professions Council
Desirable criteria
- Member of Chartered Society Of Physiotherapists
- Involvement in relevant CSP Clinical Special Interest groups
