This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Therapeutic Radiographer to take the next step in their career. This Clinical Specialist role will take the successful candidate into a sub-specialism, which will enable the further development of your clinical skills to advanced/expert level. Meeting the needs of the radiotherapy service based in Newcastle you will be responsible for the delivery, review and development of the specialist area within radiotherapy at NCCC whilst working closely with colleagues at NCCC -NC to ensure parity of radiotherapy provision across the North East and North Cumbria.

The post will be based in the treatment section of the department but will require the post holder to work collaboratively with other sections of the service, including pre-treatment imaging, dosimetry, radiotherapy physics and clinical engineering and oncologist colleagues.
The postholder will have extensive knowledge of radiotherapy, treatment techniques and equipment and be able to relate to relevant current guidelines and targets together with how external policies and pressures affect the provision of the service. They will also have extensive experience of a range of cancers and caring for seriously ill patients and be able to reflect on their practice for continuing development of knowledge.
They will have specialist knowledge in the defined sub specialist project area(s) and be able to undertake further academic study to maintain, refine and develop the area(s) to expert advanced practice level. Ensuring compliance with our training strategy is key to the continuing development of the radiographic workforce so the ability motivate and train therapeutic radiographers to deliver high quality, safe and effective treatment is fundamental to this role.
Ideally they will also have experience of developing, managing and implementing change and be able to actively participate and when required lead quality improvement projects.

- Responsible for the delivery, review and development of the specialist area within radiotherapy at NCCC.
- Contribute to holistic patient care as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing specialist advice and information regarding radiotherapy to patients and their careers.
- Undertakes practical and academic training, education and induction of staff & students.
- To be an expert in this field, having specialist knowledge within the defined project area(s) and to undertake appropriate academic or experiential study as agreed with the service leads.
- To maintain competency with existing equipment and systems and to develop the appropriate level of skill with new equipment and new systems of work to ensure continuous improvement and the development of best practise. To contribute to the development of quality improvements within NCCC.
- Timescales for achievement and standards of performance relating to the duties and responsibilities identified in this job description will be agreed via the annual appraisal process with the post-holder, and at monthly review meetings with RSM.

- BSc in Radiotherapy or equivalent qualification
- State registration as a Therapeutic Radiographer with Health and Care Professions Council
- Master’s level qualifications or equivalent gained through academic study and/or experience in specialist area

- Post graduate management qualification or equivalent experience
Knowledge & Experience

- Extensive post graduate experience within a large, modern Radiotherapy Service and previous experience in a supervisory role
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development through post graduate training and study appropriate to the post
- Recent and extensive experience of working with modern linear accelerators and data verification systems

- Previous experience of advanced practitioner level in clinical work
- Experience in working in other Radiotherapy centres.
- Experience of service redesign and management of change
- In depth experience of specialist area
