Job overview

  1. Work with the QE Facilities Pharmacy to Home team to deliver a high quality and patient focused service.
  2. Undertake and support the dispensing of all prescriptions and orders presented to the QE Facilities Pharmacy to Home including speciality medicines.
  3. Support the Pharmacy Manager to maintain and work within the legal and regulatory standards of a GPhC registered Pharmacy.
  4. Support the Pharmacy Manager to promote a strong relationship with the Trust and other key stakeholders e.g. CCG and local Trusts.
  5. Undertake appropriate training and demonstrate competency in the use of the JAC Pharmacy Support System for stock ordering and stock control.
  6. Understand the importance of booking stock to the correct patient and cost centre and to maintain accurate Patient Medication Records (PMR).
  7. Participate in the required stock taking procedures and resolve and report any stock discrepancies to the appropriate person

Main duties of the job

 To carry out a ‘Pharmaceutical and Legal’ assessment of a prescription and dispense with high level of accuracy.

  1. Understand individual role and responsibilities and know when to pass queries to the Pharmacy Manager, Pharmacist or Superintendent Pharmacist.

Understand the principle of continuous improvement in the dispensary and work within the ‘just culture’ environment for reporting errors and learning from past failures.

We provide a range of non- clinical services to GHNT and other NHS organisations. In addition we provide consultancy services, advising clients on all aspects of establishing a subsidiary company within an NHS body to the provision of VAT compliance advice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 

•  Assist in the coordination of prescription processing for home delivery in line with Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.

•  Support and uphold the principles and scope of the Pharmacy Quality Policy, ensuring all services delivered to patients at home meet regulatory and safety standards.

•  Understand and contribute to the delivery of Pharmacy Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets.

•  Offer professional insight to support the continuous improvement and development of the Pharmacy to Home service, including identifying opportunities to enhance patient experience and operational efficiency.

•  Maintain accurate records related to prescriptions, deliveries, and patient communications, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection requirements.

•  Maintain and develop personal knowledge and skills, particularly in remote patient care, digital systems, and home delivery services.

•  Agree individual objectives during appraisal and performance review meetings with the line manager, aligning with service delivery goals.

•  Work with the line manager to identify training needs and establish a Personal Development Plan, with a focus on expanding competencies relevant to remote pharmacy services and patient support.

 

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills. Ability to explain clearly and listen to members of the public and other healthcare professionals
  • Demonstrate an appropriate level of IT skills
  • Demonstrate appropriate level of organisational skills
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the Laws, Guidelines and Standards relating to the supply of medicines from a GPhC registered Pharmacy
  • Demonstrate excellent Customer skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Dispensing Pharmacy Assistant experience in Hospital Pharmacy or Community Pharmacy.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Pharmacy Service Skills NVQ Level 2 (QCF) Qualification for Dispensing Pharmacy Assistants or a Community Pharmacy dispensing qualification
