Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to join the friendly, highly motivated Coventry Community Dental Service (CCDS) based in the City of Coventry Health Centre.  We require an enthusiastic and conscientious Dental Nurse to join our professional and supportive team of Dentists, Orthodontists, Dental Therapists and Dental Nurses to provide patient focused community dentistry for people with more complex needs and conditions.  The service also comprises an Oral Health Promotion team, a domiciliary service, sedation service and provides regular GA sessions at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

You will be responsible for assisting the clinician in the day-to-day running of the surgery working under the supervision of the Senior Dental Nurses and Dental Service Operational Lead

The community dental service is based in a recently constructed purpose built Health Centre close to the city centre with nine dental surgeries.  The service currently operates Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

This new post holder will have the opportunity to assist in the provision of special care and paediatric dentistry, incorporating Inhalation and IV Sedation, General Anaesthetic sessions, domiciliary care and working on our mobile unit. You will play an important part in the service’s continuous development and our aspiration to further improve on our 2017 CQC ‘good’ rating in all five areas of assessment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We pride ourselves on our commitment to supporting individuals continued development.  To this end you will receive annual appraisals, regular one-to-one support and have access to a range of relevant training provided by the Trust.

The Health Centre is located within easy access to all transport links. There is a Pay & Display car park adjacent to the building and some street parking nearby.   Alternatively, if you do choose to run or cycle to work, a secure bike lock up is available free of charge, and showering facilities are conveniently located on the same floor as the department.

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 3 – oral healthcare or National Certificate for Dental Nurses
  • General Dental Council DCP registration
  • Educated to GCSE standard
Desirable criteria
  • Special care dental nursing

knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Up to date knowledge of dental nursing procedures including infection control processes.
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Awareness & understanding of COSHH
  • Manual dexterity
Desirable criteria
  • Conscious sedation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant chair side dental support and reception duties
  • Working as part of a dental team
  • Experience of working with children / special needs clients
