Job overview

This post will be accountable to the Associate Medical Director for Children’s Physical health services, Dr Anita Morgan through the Medical Lead, Dr Hannah Fallon. Supervision of the post will sit with the Medical Lead as line manager.

The Post-holder will provide senior clinical leadership to the wider multi-disciplinary team and work closely with the ward manager and leads to enhance effective service delivery.

The Trust expects consultants to take a leadership role and be involved with management within their clinical teams and that they should work with other senior clinical team members

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the role will be:

•    The role includes general community paediatrics outpatient clinics, child developmental assessment including assessment for neurodevelopmental conditions and health promotion.
•    The post holder will contribute to specialist clinics for children in care.
•    This role includes the assessment for children in care, writing of pre-adoption medical reports and contribute to medical advice for adoption.
•    This role has the scope to develop a special interest further in improving health outcomes for this vulnerable population. 
•    The post holder is responsible for Care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness which includes the liaison with statutory authorities regarding SEND, CIC, child protection and child death in accordance with holistic care and best practice. 
•    There is an in hours on-call rota for child protection physical abuse medical assessments and contribution to formulating risk with the multiagency team for Coventry and Rugby. 
•    The post holder will join the consultant team in the leadership of the directorate in the delivery of clinical care of children, and be an active part in the ongoing service transformation which will includer the development of new integrated clinical pathways.
•    The post holder will have a role within the team for assessment of referrals, with attendance at triage meetings and or individual triage.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A postgraduate qualification in Psychiatry e.g. Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • CCT accreditation (or within 3 months of interview) or equivalent
  • GMC registration and inclusion on the specialist register in psychiatry
Desirable criteria
  • Additional post graduate qualification
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.

Knowlegde

Essential criteria
  • Training and experience in working with children and young people with learning disabilities
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in using recognised assessment tools for the diagnosis of learning disorders and the holistic management of such conditions
