Job overview

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust provides comprehensive acute in-patient mental health, learning disability/autism, and community mental health services to the population of Coventry and Warwickshire.

This post will be based within clinical areas (inpatient and community) serviced by the Trust.

As a Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician, you will be part of a clinical team and have an excellent opportunity to play an instrumental role in contributing to the Trust’s progressive medicines optimisation strategy.

This role does not involve any dispensary element as the Trust outsources its dispensing service to an external contractor.

Main duties of the job

You will have a broad, post qualification, technical and pharmaceutical knowledge, with experience relating to the promotion of high quality, effective and safe use of medicines.

 

This will include traditional supply, medicines management standards, governance, medicines reconciliation, audit and patient/career education.

 

You will receive professional support from the Medicines Management Team based at Wayside House, Coventry, CV6 6NY.

 

You must have an independent means of transport to travel around the Trust’s geographic area and to work flexibly to meets the needs of the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

       Develop and maintain safe systems of medication supply to clinical areas in association with the Service provider.

       Monitor processes that medicines are supplied accurately, efficiently and appropriately to meet the demands of individual patients and the Trust.

       To facilitate the systems for dispensing and supply of medicines, including: inpatient medication, discharge medication, leave medication, monitored dosage systems.

       Co-ordinate and manage systems of using patients’ own drugs and one-stop dispensing (as appropriate).

       To discuss with newly admitted clients their current use of medications, both prescribed and over the counter and document how the client says they take their medication.

       To review and update individual service user profiles: maintaining up to date and accurate information on medication therapy for individual patients. 

       To liaise with the ward pharmacist and medical team to highlight any differences in the clients prescribed medication when relating this to what/how they state they take their medication and, where appropriate, clarify any discrepancy by liaising with the GP, carer or other agency

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC Diploma or equivalent (e.g. NVQ3) in Pharmaceutical Science
  • Registered technician member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Willingness to undertake on the job training and competency assessment.

  • Broad technical & pharmaceutical knowledge relating to promotion of high quality, effective and cost effective use of medicines
