Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing professional leadership and support Nursing and Allied Health Professionals engaged in clinical research within the Trust. Working closely with multi professional clinical research teams, the Lead Research Nurse will lead to delivery of safe and effective clinical research and with an agreed quality performance framework.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will support the ongoing development and implementation of the Quality Framework, along with supporting data collection and facilitating groups.

·       Develop and deliver research nursing secondments within the Partnership Trust, in collaboration with the Head of R&I Operations.

·       Supervise/peer support is offered to directorate leads.

·      Develop and deliver a package of support, training, mentorship for individuals.  This will include addressing individual staff members’ personal and professional development needs.

·       Ensure that these staff are working in a professional manner and that all are working as accountable practitioners.

·       Be responsible for the setting and monitoring professional standards and ensure that Trust policies and procedures are adhered to.

·       Be responsible for creating a dynamic learning environment for Nursing and Allied Health Professional staff, overseeing the provision of education, research and practice development.

·       Act as an expert resource to other clinicians in order to support delivery of research in the Trust.  This will require the post holder to be highly visible across the Trust, particularly to nurses and allied health professionals. This is a senior Nursing role within the organisation and there is an expectation that the post holder will fully participate in the clinical and professional leadership within the organisation.

·       Act as a role model, employ professional behaviour that encourages and    coaches their team members to challenge their current competencies, whilst seeking opportunities to enhance their roles.  This includes the creation of a culture of appraisals and personal and professional development whilst setting clear smart objectives to meet the needs of the individual, clinical area and organisation.

·       Work with the Head of Research and other stakeholders to assess the feasibility of portfolio and commercial studies, including attending meeting with internal  and external partners and providing expertise in nurse-led research delivery.

·       Assist in the delivery of research studies as and when necessary, including clinical interventions, for example, phlebotomy, ECGs, BP, infection swabs, processing bloods.

·       Contribute to verbal and written reports in a timely and appropriate manner.

·       Work with team members and relevant stakeholders to oversee all research projects, to achieve time and target objectives.

Essential criteria
  • First level registration
  • Educated to degree level in health related subject
  • Provide evidence of continuous professional development, documented within CPD portfolio

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical research experience at a senior level
  • Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentorship
  • Fully aware of principles of infection control and health and safety issues

Other

Essential criteria
  • • Must have independent means of transportation and be able to travel to different sites around the Trust
