Job overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to be part of our All Age Autism Intensive Support Team for Coventry and Warwickshire.
The team started as a pilot project nearly 5 years ago. The team have been successful in supporting a number of children with autism and mental health needs, improving their outcomes and reducing their need to go into hospital. Due to the success of the team additional funding has been awarded to extend the scope to include adults.
If you are driven, passionate and to want to work with Autistic children and adults who are in mental health crisis and are at risk of admission to hospital, then we want to hear from you.
The team is a specialist, multi-disciplinary team currently consisting of Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nursing and Therapy Assistants and Assistant Psychologists.

- Autism informed interventions to reduce the risk of an admission due to mental health crisis

As a team we work systemically to understand and support the significant impact and challenges experienced by children and adults with autism who are in mental health crisis, and their families.
We work with the network around the child/young person (e.g. RISE, Adult Mental Health, Social Care, Education) and work closely with commissioners. As a speech and language therapist you will have experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working as you will need to attend and chair regular MDT’s, CETR’s and EMDT’s.
As a Speech and Language Therapist you would visit individuals at their home / at school / in appropriate setting multiple times a week to engage them and carry out our assessments and interventions.

The team works across Coventry and the whole of Warwickshire (north and south) to provide additional therapeutic support for the families and individuals who are most at risk of an admission to a Tier 4 hospital.
We sit within the Learning Disability and Autism Directorate and as such we are part of a large multi-professional group which offers the opportunity for knowledge and skill sharing. There will be opportunities for Continual Professional Development, regular clinical supervision and participation in Reflective Practice Groups. Whilst we sit within this directorate, a higher proportion of the young people we support fall within Rise (CAMHS) with whom we also have strong links.
The team describe the work they do as no 2 days are the same and very rewarding when they are able to be part of the MDT in keeping a young person out of hospital

- SLT degree
- RCSLT registered
- HCPC registered
Knowledge

- Ability to practice independently within clinical area
- Proven knowledge and skills relevant to children’s and/or adult SLT
- Ability to provide specialist clinical advice on an individual case basis
Experience

- SLT clinical experience of working with children/adults with a variety of clinical needs i.e. mental health
