We have an exciting opportunity to join the friendly, highly motivated Coventry Community Dental Service (CCDS) based in the City of Coventry Health Centre, working across Coventry & Warwickshire. We require an enthusiastic and conscientious clinician to join our professional and supportive team of Dentists, Dental Therapists and Dental Nurses to provide patient focused community dentistry for people with more complex needs and conditions.

The service also comprises an Oral Health Improvement team, a domiciliary service and provides regular GA sessions at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire

The challenging and rewarding work of community dentistry spans a wide range of services in which there will be ample opportunity for involvement, providing opportunities to practice clinical facets of special care and paediatric dentistry, including provision of treatment under sedation.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver dental treatment working to a written treatment prescription in a clinical situation for people who have complex needs, preventing them from being appropriate to care in General Dental Practice setting.
  • Direct access, opening and closing courses of treatment as well as skill mixed clinics where the therapist will be sharing care leading to improved efficiency and productivity and reduced costs.

  • Ability to work on own initiative, including being confident in the delivery of dental care using complex techniques to meet the needs of the patients - often with complex and specific needs.

  • Perform fillings in deciduous and permanent teeth selecting appropriate materials using high speed equipment, completely following dental procedures.

  • Administration of local anaesthesia, both infiltration and nerve block anaesthesia.

  • Providing treatment under inhalation sedation with Nitrous Oxide.

  • Undertaking extraction of deciduous teeth.

  • Undertaking root canal treatment on deciduous teeth.

  • Application of preventive agents.

  • Creating impressions.

  • Taking Radiographs.

  • Replacing lost crowns.

  • Placement of pre-formed crowns on deciduous teeth.

  • Periodontal treatment and root debridement.

  • To be responsible for own time-management in both clinical and training obligations to fulfil demands of the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We have a substantive post based on 37.5 hours working week - this is expected to comprise a clinical caseload dedicated to providing high quality specialised dental care in a compassionate environment to patients who may exhibit learning difficulties, phobias, and challenging behaviour.

To specialise in dentistry for people with complex additional needs, without direct supervision, who have been assessed as appropriate to access to Special Care Dental Service. This dentistry incorporates invasive and irreversible treatment and preventative procedures within the remit of an Oral Health Practitioner (Therapist) as laid down by The General Dental Council (GDC).
