Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the right candidate to join our specialist team of Cardiac Physiologists here at UHCW.

UHCW is one of the largest acute Trust’s in the country. With 17 Cardiology Consultants, we provide World Class innovation and research in all aspects of Cardiology.

Performing over 500 Pacing/ICD and 250 ILR procedures a year as well as 700 EP/Ablation procedures per year including, 3D mapping, Cryo, PFA, SVT EPS, and a substantial VT Ablation Service.

AT UHCW we are proud to be involved in ongoing research in the field of CRM and EP, this allows us early use of new technologies and procedures. Our Catheter Suite provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services; PPCI/PCI, TAVI, Right and Left heart Cath, structural closures/repairs, Complex device implantation and extraction.

We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Physiologist/Clinical Scientist to join our CRM service here at UHCW Trust and at our Community Diagnostic Hubs, to share our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

We have strong clinical input and support, and you will have the ability to work with our medical colleagues to develop your skills and knowledge.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP. 

Main duties of the job

Provide advanced level of  technical and clinical CRM support during implantation and follow up of devices. Be able to work independently and as part of MDT team.

Provide highly specialist advice, training, mentoring, supervision and assessment in the field of CRM to cardiac physiologists, nursing and medical staff.

Responsible on a day-to-day basis for ensuring the infrastructure and equipment of the CRM service is maintained in good working order and is adequate for purpose.

Maintain and develop personal, technical and managerial skills, as required, to satisfy service and personal development programme needs.

The post is for 37.5 hrs/week, worked over 5 days on an 8.30 to 4.30 working pattern (Monday-Friday). The post holder is expected to participate in an out of hours on-call rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To work independently as a specialist practitioner in CRM speciality, supporting device implant and follow-up. 
  • To provide highly specialist analytical and judgmental skills which involve complex analysis and interpretation of data on either a daily or prolonged basis. To provide diagnostic reports and prescription for optimisation therapy for pacemaker / device implantation and follow-up.
  • To support remote device checks and produce appropriate reports as well as dealing with any patient queries.
  • To provide clinical supervision and support to trainees and junior staff.
  • Ensure full national accreditation is maintained, undertake further training as required for both professional development and service provision and be actively involved in clinical governance of service and service development.
  • To participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota.
