An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the leadership team responsible for delivering Inpatient Therapy services (Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy) at UHCW NHS Trust. An understanding of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy professional drivers and challenges is essential along with a passion for acute recovery and rehabilitation service delivery and effective patient pathways.
The inpatient Therapy service at UHCW NHS Trust is an expanding, forward-thinking and highly regarded service and this post offers excellent personal and professional development opportunities within an established, supportive team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward-thinking professional with excellent leadership, people management and operational delivery skills to join us.
Applications are welcome from Physiotherapists able to demonstrate extensive acute hospital inpatient clinical and leadership experience. The successful candidate will have day to day responsibility for the Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Clinical Exercise Physiology provision offered by six specialty teams. They will work closely with their Occupational Therapy CSM counterpart to ensure profession specific leadership and support across all twelve inpatient specialty teams.
Your development needs will be identified through regular supervision and appraisals and supported through internal/ external learning opportunities.
Main duties of the job
A high profile, accessible and responsive leader with managerial responsibility for planning and developing, co-ordinating, delivery and evaluating the Occupational / Physiotherapy service on a day-to-day basis across all inpatient clinical areas.
Key Functions
- Delivery of performance of the in-patient Therapy service at UH against financial, trust and group priorities and targets in collaboration with other Therapy Clinical Service Managers and the Inpatient and Outpatient Therapy Heads of Service.
- Supporting the development and delivery of the clinical governance programme and working alongside senior nursing and other AHP colleagues on quality initiatives.
- Responsible for the local interpretation and application of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy clinical and professional policies.
- Key link with the UHCW AHP Faculty and local universities for the strategic management of Pre-Registration education, graduate recruitment and preceptorship.
The role will entail working at both our University Hospital Coventry and Hospital of St Cross in Rugby. Core hours will be delivered Monday to Friday but on occasion bank holiday and weekend working may be required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Manage the operational performance of the Occupational Therapy /Physiotherapy service to support an efficient and cost-effective delivery of national, trust and group priorities and targets ensuring robust implementation of service objectives and clear communication across and within clinical teams.
- Regularly review staffing establishments to ensure an appropriate skill mix by managing resources to achieve equitable, comprehensive services across all clinical areas within financial resources.
- Represent Occupational Therapy/ Physiotherapy at Group and Trust level to ensure planning and delivery of Therapy services adheres to group plans and targets.
- In collaboration with the Inpatient Therapy Head of Service ensure the delivery of interdisciplinary working across Occupational Therapy /Physiotherapy services where appropriate and ensure uni-professional support is appropriately provided relevant to professional group.
- Lead and coordinate timely and detailed responses to complaints, clinical adverse events and untoward incidents. Involve staff and or patients and implement strategies to reduce reoccurrence and promote quality.
- Together with the Inpatient Therapy Head of Service manage the Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy budget to ensure resources are effectively managed, financial targets are met, and financial balances adhered to. Be an authorised signatory for the Therapy Budget.
- Interpret and implement HR strategies and policies within the services in order to achieve compliancy with trust policies and procedures.
- Responsible with support of Clinical Specialists/ Clinical Specialist Team leads for co-ordinating and delivering the seven-day Therapy services within inpatients, including on call rotas.
- Responsible through clinical leads to ensure that a system for training, supervision and appraisal of all registered, nonregistered, and undergraduate staff is in place. To ensure that all professional, clinical, and departmental standards are adhered to.
