Job overview
An exciting opportunity presents itself to join the Radiotherapy Engineering team at University Hospitals NHS Trust, Coventry. The candidate should have a relevant Level 6 qualification (e.g. BSc. (Hons)) and be registered with the Register of Clinical Technologists or have sufficient experience in Radiotherapy to do so. The candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated, and dynamic with strong communication skills and willingness to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
The successful candidate will work closely with Senior Technologists, Clinical Scientists, and Radiographers and will be able to demonstrate a range of highly technical skills. The candidate will primarily work in the maintenance of radiotherapy linear accelerators and other associated equipment.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Main duties of the job
- Participate in planned maintenance of radiotherapy treatment equipment.
- Undertake, under supervision of senior staff, the diagnosis and repair of faults and breakdowns.
- Carry out quality control checks on radiotherapy equipment including absolute dose measurements
- To assist in the construction of innovative devices, equipment modifications and other innovations to enhance the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To participate in the maintenance service to the highly complex radiotherapy equipment used for treating cancer patients. In particular: linear accelerators, orthovoltage therapy x-ray machines, High Dose Rate after-loading machine and dosimetry equipment.
2. To develop the knowledge and skill to technically interpret reports from radiographers; and to discuss complex aspects of linear accelerator operation with scientists, technologists and manufacturers engineers with regard to fault diagnosis, equipment maintenance and innovative device development and modification.
3. Fault diagnosis and repair:
3.1. To undertake, under supervision, the diagnosis and repair of faults and breakdowns on the above equipment.
4. Planned Preventative Maintenance and Quality Control:
4.1. To assist with maintenance and safety checking of all equipment to ensure compliance with current safety regulations and manufacturers specifications.
4.2. Under supervision to carry out quality control checks on radiotherapy equipment including absolute dose measurements as agreed with radiotherapy physicists.
4.3. To ensure that quality control checks which directly result in radiation dose to the patient are carried out with strict reference to procedures and safety tolerance levels set out in the quality system.
4.4. To maintain accurate and timely documentation of all work carried on radiotherapy equipment.
4.5. To assist clinical scientists to carry out calibration of treatment machine parameters.
5. To assist in the construction of innovative devices, equipment modifications and other innovations to enhance the service.
